Residential care for handicapped children Serving Children with Special Needs

Community Service

In the 1990's Faith, Hope and Charity (FHC) located in Storm Lake, Iowa expanded their services. In addition to providing residential services for children with disabilities, we also provide a service to families whose children continue to live at home.

Respite care is design to give caregivers a well-deserved break. Unlike a typical sitter, respite care providers are trained professionals who understand the needs of children and their families. Respite care services are used in hour increments. We provide these services in the family home, in the provider’s home or at our weekend respite care site.

Unique to this region of the state is our weekend respite care program. The families bring their children to our Community Service Center Friday evening and return Sunday to take their child home again. Some families use partial weekends as well. Respite care services are also scheduled per the family’s request. Children using the MR and BI Waiver funding sources are eligible for Supported Community Living (SCL) services. SCL is a teaching/learning program for the child. The child and their team develop a program plan. The SCL provider and the child then work together to achieve the goals. This service is a 1:1 service in the child’s home or in the community.

CONSUMER DIRECTED ATTENDANT CARE (CDAC):
CDAC is a service that directed by the child. The provider performs duties that normally the child would do. There are also medical procedures that can be performed with a nurse or staff under the supervision of a nurse.

HOME & VEHICLE MODIFICATION:
This service helps families make adaptations to their home or vehicle that will provide a safer and more accessible living space. i.e. wheelchair ramps, bath chairs, remodeling, equipment, etc.

All of these services can be funded through the Home and Community Based Waiver Programs. Faith, Hope and Charity is licensed to provide services under the MR Waiver, the Ill and Handicapped Waiver, the Children's Mental Health Program and the Brain Injury Waiver.

We use the respite services for our daughter Abby through Faith, Hope & Charity. The respite weekends provide a fun and safe environment for her. She has friends to play with and a variety of activities to participate in. We can relax knowing she is at such a caring place.
